A NITI Aayog delegation visited Jammu & Kashmir and highlighted the urgent need to raise learning outcomes and upgrade school infrastructure across the region.

A senior NITI Aayog team arrived in Jammu & Kashmir this week to assess the state’s education system and meet with local officials. The delegation, comprising experts in pedagogy, infrastructure planning and finance, spent two days touring schools in both urban and remote districts.
The members reported that many schools continue to suffer from inadequate classrooms, insufficient teaching aids, and low student performance in core subjects. They noted that dropout rates remain high, especially among girls in rural areas, and that digital connectivity is uneven, limiting access to modern learning tools.
Based on their findings, the team urged the state government to prioritize the construction of safe, well‑equipped classrooms, strengthen teacher training programmes, and expand broadband connectivity in schools. They also recommended a data‑driven monitoring framework to track progress on learning outcomes and infrastructure upgrades over the next fiscal year.
