The National Highways Authority of India has released guidelines aimed at enhancing safety on high‑speed, access‑controlled national highways.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) announced a set of fresh guidelines today targeting high‑speed, access‑controlled stretches of the national highway network. The document is intended to standardise safety measures across these fast‑moving corridors and to curb the rising number of serious road incidents.

According to the release, the guidelines focus on improving road design, enforcing appropriate speed limits, enhancing signage visibility, and strengthening emergency response protocols. NHAI officials said that aligning these parameters with global best practices will make the highways safer for commuters and freight operators alike.

The authority plans to roll out the recommendations in phases, beginning with the most heavily trafficked expressways. State highway agencies and contractors are expected to incorporate the new standards in upcoming projects and retrofits. NHAI will monitor compliance through periodic audits and will issue further directives as needed to ensure the safety objectives are met.
