A new political coalition named TVK Alliance has been announced, but internal disagreement over the 2029 prime ministerial candidate led left parties to miss a key meeting.
The political landscape saw the emergence of a new coalition, the TVK Alliance, officially named in a recent gathering of senior leaders. The alliance aims to consolidate regional and national forces ahead of upcoming electoral cycles.
However, the formation was marred by a visible split over the selection of a candidate to contest the prime ministerial post in the 2029 general elections. While some members advocated for a seasoned leader, others pushed for a younger face, creating a palpable rift within the bloc.
The disagreement prompted several left-leaning parties to skip a crucial coordination meeting, signaling dissent and raising questions about the alliance's cohesion ahead of future contests. Observers note that the absence could affect the alliance's ability to present a unified front in the coming years.
