A Rs 9,850 crore expressway linking Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh will slash travel time between Bhopal and Varanasi to eight hours.

The governments of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh have approved a new expressway project valued at Rs 9,850 crore. The corridor is designed to improve road connectivity between the two states, creating a faster, high‑speed link for passengers and freight.

Once operational, the expressway will reduce the Bhopal‑Varanasi journey to roughly eight hours, a significant cut from the current travel time. It will also streamline travel between Satna and Sagar, offering a more direct route for commuters and traders.

The infrastructure is expected to boost regional trade, tourism and economic activity by cutting logistics costs and encouraging investment along the corridor. Detailed project reports indicate that construction will commence later this year, with an anticipated completion timeline of five years.

The expressway forms part of a broader push by both state governments to modernise transport networks, aiming to integrate central India more closely with the northern belt and enhance overall mobility for citizens.
