Meteorologists have identified a fresh low-pressure area forming over the Bay of Bengal, which could bring moderate to heavy rainfall to Odisha in the coming days.

A new low-pressure area has been observed developing over the Bay of Bengal, centred roughly 200 kilometres east of the Odisha coastline, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Satellite imagery shows the system consolidating with increasing cloud cover and falling sea‑level pressure.
The IMD has warned that the system may intensify as it moves westward, potentially delivering moderate to heavy rain across coastal districts of Odisha within the next 48‑72 hours. Localised gusty winds of up to 40 km/h are also possible, raising the risk of minor flooding in low‑lying areas.
State authorities have issued an early weather advisory, urging residents in vulnerable zones to stay alert, secure loose objects, and avoid unnecessary travel during the expected downpours. Continuous monitoring will be maintained and updates will be provided as the situation evolves.
