Veterinarians report that the orangutan cubs at Nandankanan Zoo in Odisha are now stable in health and display increased activity levels.

Veterinarians at Nandankanan Zoo in Bhubaneswar have confirmed that the orphaned orangutan cubs are now in stable health condition after a period of intensive care. The animals, which were previously showing signs of stress and reduced appetite, have regained normal weight and are actively engaging with their environment.

Observations over the past weeks indicate a marked increase in exploratory behavior, with the cubs climbing trees, playing with toys, and interacting more frequently with caretakers. This uptick in activity is a positive sign that the rehabilitation program is effective.

Zoo officials plan to continue monitoring the cubs’ progress and will gradually introduce them to a larger enclosure to prepare for eventual release into a protected habitat. The successful improvement in the cubs’ health and behavior has been hailed as a milestone for wildlife conservation efforts in Odisha.
