Nalanda University Vice‑Chancellor Sachin Chaturvedi stressed the importance of India creating its own linguistic tools to enhance its soft power, calling for a shift away from borrowed terminology.

Nalanda University’s Vice‑Chancellor, Sachin Chaturvedi, recently highlighted the need for India to craft its own linguistic repertoire as a means of strengthening its soft power.

Speaking at a forum on national image and cultural diplomacy, Chaturvedi argued that India’s influence abroad is tied not only to its economic and political clout but also to the way its ideas and values are communicated.

He urged policymakers and scholars to move beyond the extensive use of foreign terminology and to develop a distinct lexicon that reflects India’s cultural heritage and contemporary aspirations.

The call aims to give Indian narratives a clearer voice on the global stage, ensuring that concepts rooted in Indian tradition are expressed in a language that resonates with diverse audiences.

Chaturvedi’s remarks come as India seeks to expand its cultural outreach through initiatives such as the International Institute of Soft Power and increased participation in global cultural exchanges.
