A Muslim man was taken into custody in Jharkhand after authorities discovered he had posed as a Hindu to wed a minor at a temple.
Police in Jharkhand arrested a Muslim man on Thursday after a complaint was filed alleging that he had disguised himself as a Hindu to conduct a marriage ceremony for a minor at a local temple. The arrest came after investigators traced the man’s identity through CCTV footage and temple records, which showed a bride below the legal marriage age.
The accused, who was found in possession of documents bearing a Hindu name, is now facing charges under the Indian Penal Code for fraud and for violating the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Authorities have also opened a separate inquiry into the temple’s security protocols.
The minor bride’s family has expressed shock, and the case has drawn attention to the need for stricter verification processes at places of worship. Police have assured the public that they will pursue all legal avenues to prevent such incidents in the future.
