Cyclone Murasu has damaged more than 30,000 hectares of crops across Andhra Pradesh, according to Business Standard.

Cyclone Murasu struck the eastern coast of India in early October, bringing heavy rains and strong winds that wreaked havoc on agricultural lands in Andhra Pradesh. Business Standard reports that the storm has damaged more than 30,000 hectares of crops, affecting a wide range of staples including paddy, cotton and pulses.

State officials have begun assessing the extent of the damage, with local farmers reporting uprooted trees, flattened fields and loss of seedlings. The damage is expected to impact the upcoming harvest season and could strain the region’s food security.

Agricultural departments are coordinating relief efforts, including the distribution of seed packets and financial assistance to affected farmers. The state government has also urged the central government to consider emergency subsidies to help farmers recover.

Meteorologists note that Murasu was one of the most intense cyclonic systems to hit the Bay of Bengal in recent years, and experts warn that similar weather events may become more frequent due to climate change.
