During a meeting in Bhopal, a Member of Parliament announced a scheme to provide five million free registrations for land records, but the attending patwaris refused to endorse the proposal.

A gathering of officials in Bhopal saw a Member of Parliament unveil a new initiative aimed at offering five million free registrations for land‑record services. The proposal, presented as a step to simplify ownership documentation for citizens, was intended to be rolled out across the state in the coming months.

The MP emphasized that the free‑registration drive would remove financial barriers for land owners and help modernise the revenue department's database. Under the scheme, eligible applicants would be able to obtain digital records without paying the usual fees, thereby encouraging wider compliance.

However, the patwaris—revenue officers responsible for maintaining land records—refused to sign the agreement that would operationalise the scheme. Their collective refusal was recorded during the meeting, signalling resistance from the ground‑level staff tasked with implementation.

The stalemate leaves the government uncertain about the timeline for the programme. Officials indicated that further dialogue will be required to address the patwaris' concerns before the free‑registration drive can proceed.
