MP Assembly Passes UCC Bill

The Madhya Pradesh assembly has taken a significant step towards uniformity in personal laws by passing the UCC bill. This move is expected to bring about major changes in the way marriages and relationships are registered and recognized in the state. The bill prohibits polygamy, which is the practice of having multiple spouses, and nikah halala, a controversial practice that requires a woman to marry another man and then divorce him before she can remarry her previous husband.
