Rainfall in Madhya Pradesh has reached 25.5 inches, 11% below normal, while the monsoon intensifies over the northern, central and western regions, prompting orange alerts in three districts.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that cumulative rainfall across Madhya Pradesh has totaled 25.5 inches (approximately 648 mm) up to date, marking an 11% shortfall compared with the long‑term average for this period.
While 40 districts continue to record below‑average precipitation, only 15 districts have surpassed the expected rainfall levels. The latest monsoon pattern shows a noticeable shift, with increased activity in the state's northern, central and western zones.
In response, the IMD has issued orange alerts for three districts that are now experiencing heightened risk of localized flooding. Authorities have advised residents in the affected areas to stay alert and follow safety directives.
The department cautioned that despite the recent uptick, overall rainfall remains below the seasonal norm, and continued monitoring is essential to mitigate any adverse impacts on agriculture and water resources.
