Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said the Modi administration will now treat the India‑China border, especially in Arunachal Pradesh, as a chief focus following recent reports of Chinese intrusion.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju told reporters that the recent allegation of Chinese forces crossing into Arunachal Pradesh has prompted the government to re‑evaluate its border strategy. He said that for years the frontier in the northeast received limited attention, but the current episode has made it a top priority for the Modi administration.
Rijiju emphasized that the government will accelerate infrastructure projects, deploy additional troops and improve surveillance along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Arunachal. He assured that resources will be mobilised to strengthen roads, communication networks and forward bases to deter any future incursions.
The minister also highlighted that a robust border posture is essential for safeguarding India's sovereignty and for the development of the remote hill regions. He urged state authorities and local communities to cooperate with security agencies as the central government rolls out its renewed focus on the frontier.
While he did not disclose specific timelines, Rijiju indicated that a comprehensive review of border management is underway, and that the upcoming budget will reflect heightened spending on defence and infrastructure in the northeast.
Analysts note that the shift in tone signals a broader strategic recalibration after years of perceived neglect, aiming to balance diplomatic engagement with China and a stronger on‑ground presence.
