Mizoram Requests ESIC Hospital and Higher Khelo India Funding

The Mizoram state government has formally asked the centre for an ESIC hospital and a larger allocation under the Khelo India scheme.
The government of Mizoram has submitted a formal request to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for the setting up of an Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) hospital in the state. The proposal cites the need for a dedicated tertiary care facility to serve the large number of insured workers and their families, who currently travel to neighbouring states for treatment.
In the same communication, Mizoram has also appealed for an increased allocation under the Khelo India programme, arguing that enhanced funding will help develop sports infrastructure and nurture talent at the grassroots level. The state aims to leverage the scheme to improve training centres, provide better equipment, and organize more competitive events.
Officials said the dual request reflects Mizoram's broader development agenda, which seeks to strengthen both health services and sports opportunities for its youth. The centre's response is awaited, and the state has indicated it will continue to lobby for swift approval.
