State leader Lalduhoma announced that Mizoram intends to contribute 1% of the national GDP by 2047.
Mizoram’s chief ministerial representative, Lalduhoma, disclosed the state’s long‑term economic ambition to account for one percent of India’s gross domestic product by the year 2047. The target aligns with the state’s broader development plan that seeks to boost industrial output, tourism and infrastructure over the next two decades.
Officials said achieving the goal will require sustained investment in sectors such as renewable energy, agro‑processing and information technology, as well as improvements in connectivity with the rest of the country. The state government is expected to launch incentive schemes to attract private capital and to strengthen skill development programs for the local workforce.
Economists note that while Mizoram’s current contribution to the national economy is well below one percent, the target is symbolic of the state’s desire to accelerate growth and reduce regional disparities. Monitoring progress will involve periodic reviews of fiscal performance and project implementation.
The announcement comes as several northeastern states are seeking greater fiscal autonomy and central support to bridge development gaps. If realized, Mizoram’s 1% share would mark a significant shift in its economic profile within the Indian federation.
