Midnight raid in Umaria busts teak smuggling ring, pickup with 12 bundles seized

Forest officials in Umaria seized a pickup loaded with twelve bundles of teak wood during a midnight operation, arresting one suspect while two fled.
The Madhya Pradesh Forest Department conducted a surprise operation in the Naurojaabad forest range of Umaria district shortly after midnight. Officers surrounded a pickup truck that was carrying twelve bundles of high-value teak timber, a species often targeted by illegal loggers.
During the raid, the team apprehended one individual suspected of coordinating the shipment. Two other persons linked to the vehicle managed to escape before the authorities could secure the scene.
The confiscated pickup and the timber have been taken to the district forest office for further examination. Officials have launched a detailed inquiry to trace the origin of the wood and to map the broader smuggling network operating in the region.
