The state of Meghalaya has been declared the top performer under the second phase of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana – Water Development Component, according to a minister.
Meghalaya has emerged as the leading state in the latest assessment of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana – Water Development Component (PMKSY-WDC) 2.0. The ranking was announced by a state minister during a briefing with the media.
The PMKSY-WDC 2.0 scheme focuses on expanding irrigation infrastructure, improving water-use efficiency and enhancing farmer income across the country. Meghalaya's performance reflects successful implementation of water conservation projects, including the construction of new check dams and the rejuvenation of traditional water bodies.
State officials attributed the achievement to coordinated efforts between the department of agriculture, local panchayats and community groups. They also indicated that the top ranking will help attract additional central assistance for further irrigation initiatives in the hilly region.
The minister reiterated the government's commitment to replicate successful models from Meghalaya in other northeastern states, aiming to boost agricultural productivity and resilience against climate variability.
