Meghalaya politician Paul Lyngdoh called for building trust and rejecting hate after videos depicting tensions between Meghalaya and Assam went viral online.

A series of videos showing alleged confrontations between residents of Meghalaya and Assam have circulated widely on social media, prompting concerns of communal tension. In response, Paul Lyngdoh, a senior political figure from Meghalaya, issued a statement urging people to "build bridges of trust" rather than fuel hatred.

Lyngdoh emphasized that the videos, whether authentic or edited, should not be used to stoke animosity between the two states. He appealed to citizens, community leaders, and law‑enforcement agencies to act responsibly and prevent any escalation of discord.

The leader also called on media outlets to verify content before broadcasting and warned that hate‑filled campaigns could jeopardise the long‑standing cultural ties shared by the neighboring regions. He reassured that the governments of both states are monitoring the situation and are prepared to intervene if needed.

Officials in Shillong and Guwahati have been asked to cooperate in tracing the origin of the clips and to ensure that any misinformation is swiftly addressed. The statement aims to calm public sentiment while reinforcing the need for communal harmony across the Northeast.
