Mayurbhanj Flood Alert as Budhabalanga River Swells, Baripada on High Alert

The district administration of Mayurbhanj has placed the region under a flood alert following a noticeable rise in the water level of the Budhabalanga River. Local officials reported that the river, which flows through the district’s headquarters, Baripada, has crossed its normal threshold, raising concerns of possible inundation in low‑lying areas.

Emergency response teams have been mobilised and are monitoring the situation round the clock. Authorities have instructed residents in vulnerable pockets to stay prepared, avoid unnecessary travel near the riverbanks, and cooperate with any evacuation directives that may be issued.

The alert comes amid seasonal monsoon patterns that often swell rivers in eastern India. While no immediate damage has been reported, officials warned that heavy rainfall in the coming days could exacerbate the situation, urging the public to remain vigilant.
