Heavy monsoon rains have caused severe flooding in Nepal, killing at least 160 people. The disaster has triggered large‑scale evacuation drives in the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Uttarakhand.

Heavy monsoon downpours over the Himalayas have swollen rivers in Nepal, leading to flash floods that have so far claimed a death toll of 160, according to local authorities. The worst‑hit districts include areas along the Koshi and Gandaki basins, where water levels surged beyond historic marks.

Rescue teams from Nepal’s army and civil defence are battling to reach isolated villages as landslides block road access. Temporary shelters have been set up in schools and community halls, while relief supplies are being air‑dropped to the hardest‑hit zones.

The flooding has spilled over into India’s border regions, prompting the governments of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Uttarakhand to launch coordinated evacuation operations. Officials have moved thousands of residents from low‑lying settlements to safer locations, deploying police, disaster response forces and the National Disaster Response Force.

Both countries are now exchanging resources; Nepal has appealed for additional aid, and Indian state administrations are sending food packets, medical kits and rescue equipment to assist the cross‑border relief effort.
