The Maharashtra Regional Transport Office (RTO) has announced that it will begin testing the Marathi language skills of auto rickshaw, taxi and app cab drivers today.
The assessment will cover basic conversational Marathi, including common phrases used in customer interactions and safety instructions. Drivers will be required to demonstrate their ability to understand and respond in Marathi during the test.
The move aims to improve communication between drivers and passengers, ensuring clearer instructions and better service quality. It also aligns with the state’s broader initiative to promote the Marathi language in public services.
Drivers are advised to review standard Marathi phrases and practice speaking with peers. Those who fail the test may be required to undergo a short training program before they can resume driving.
