During the raid, officials arrested seven persons believed to be involved in the procurement and distribution of the contraband gutkha. The detainees are being held for further investigation under the provisions of the Maharashtra Prohibition of Gutkha Act.
Authorities highlighted that gutkha, a chewable tobacco product, is linked to serious health risks and is prohibited in several Indian states. The FDA said the operation demonstrates its commitment to enforcing the law and curbing the availability of harmful substances.
The seized stock will be destroyed in accordance with standard procedures, and the arrested individuals will face legal action pending a court trial.
