The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration Commissioner upheld a Rs 5 lakh penalty imposed on a Pune sweet shop, after a Bombay court ordered compensation for the shop.

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner publicly defended the imposition of a Rs 5 lakh fine on a sweet shop in Pune. The penalty was confirmed after the Bombay High Court directed the shop to pay compensation, citing violations of food safety regulations.

According to the FDA, the fine reflects serious lapses in hygiene and quality standards that could endanger public health. The commissioner's statement emphasized that regulatory action is necessary to maintain consumer confidence in food products across the state.

Commissioner Tukaram Munde said the decision aligns with the agency’s mandate to enforce strict compliance and that the fine serves as a deterrent to other establishments. He reiterated the FDA’s commitment to rigorous inspections and swift corrective measures to safeguard consumers.
