Maharashtra Farm Widows Face Uncertainty

The Ladki Bahin scheme was introduced in 2024, ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly election, to provide financial assistance to farm widows in the Marathwada region. This region is largely rain-starved, making it difficult for farmers to sustain their livelihood. The scheme was seen as a vital lifeline for these women, who had lost their husbands due to various reasons. However, with the election now over, the beneficiaries of the scheme are facing uncertainty. Mass deletions of beneficiaries have been reported, leaving the farm widows anxious about their future.
