Madhya Pradesh electricity authorities announced they will draw additional power from Punjab and Uttar Pradesh to offset a growing supply shortfall.
Madhya Pradesh's power utility said it will procure additional electricity from the neighboring states of Punjab and Uttar Pradesh as the state's supply gap widens. The move comes after a recent assessment showed a shortfall in the state's grid despite earlier periods of surplus. Officials indicated that the extra power will be sourced through existing inter‑state transmission corridors, ensuring a quick response to the deficit.
The arrangement is expected to be formalised through short‑term purchase agreements, with the imported electricity slated to reach the Madhya Pradesh grid within weeks. The state aims to stabilise supply for both residential and industrial consumers while avoiding load‑shedding measures.
State officials did not disclose the exact volume of power to be imported, but emphasized that the decision reflects a proactive approach to maintain reliable electricity service amid fluctuating demand and generation patterns.
