Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Yadav said the state has withdrawn more than 900 outdated statutes to streamline the legal framework.
The Madhya Pradesh government announced that it has formally repealed more than 900 laws deemed obsolete or redundant. The disclosure was made by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Yadav during a press briefing in Bhopal.
The repeal forms part of a broader reform agenda aimed at reducing bureaucratic clutter and improving governance efficiency. Officials said the selected statutes ranged from colonial‑era regulations to recent amendments that never came into effect.
The state law department has prepared a revised legal code to replace the withdrawn provisions and plans to publish the updated list on its website within weeks. Legal experts welcomed the step, noting that clearing outdated legislation can help attract investment and simplify compliance for businesses and citizens alike.
The initiative aligns with similar efforts in other Indian states to modernise their statutes, reflecting a growing trend toward legislative rationalisation across the country.
