Heavy monsoon showers have dumped roughly 30 inches of rain across Madhya Pradesh, prompting authorities to release water by opening gates at Kaliasote dam in Bhopal and several other reservoirs.
Continuous monsoon rains have swept across Madhya Pradesh, with the state recording an estimated 30 inches of rainfall to date. The deluge has caused river levels to rise rapidly, raising concerns among local officials and residents.
In response, water management teams have opened the spillway gates at Kaliasote dam near Bhopal, along with similar releases at a number of other dams in the region. The controlled releases are intended to prevent overtopping and reduce pressure on the dam structures.
Riverine authorities are closely monitoring water levels in downstream channels, warning that further heavy showers could elevate flood risks in low‑lying areas. Emergency response teams remain on standby to assist communities if water levels breach critical thresholds.
The state disaster management department has issued advisories for residents to stay alert, avoid unnecessary travel near riverbanks, and follow instructions from local officials as the monsoon persists.
