Heavy monsoon showers have dumped around 30 inches of rain across Madhya Pradesh, prompting authorities to release water by opening gates at Kaliasot and several other reservoirs.
The state of Madhya Pradesh has been under continuous heavy rain, with cumulative precipitation nearing 30 inches, according to the latest meteorological data. The sustained downpour has caused water levels in several reservoirs to rise sharply, raising concerns among officials about potential overflow.
In response, the water management department has opened the gates of the Kaliasot dam near Bhopal, along with a number of other dams across the region, to release excess water downstream. The controlled releases are intended to prevent overtopping and reduce pressure on dam structures.
