A low pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal, prompting the Indian Meteorological Department to issue weather advisories for Odisha.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported the formation of a low pressure system over the Bay of Bengal early today. Satellite imagery showed a distinct cyclonic circulation developing south of the Indian coastline, centred in the eastern part of the Bay.
Meteorologists expect the system to move north‑westward towards the coast of Odisha within the next 24 hours. The IMD warned of moderate to heavy rainfall along the coastal districts, accompanied by gusty winds that could reach 40‑50 km/h.
Authorities have issued advisories urging residents, especially in low‑lying and flood‑prone areas, to stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel. Emergency services are on standby to respond to any flooding or wind‑related incidents.
The IMD will continue to monitor the low pressure area and provide updates every six hours as it evolves, and will issue further warnings if the system intensifies.
