The LockBit ransomware struck the CCTV networks of Bhopal’s Ayodhya Nagar and Shahpur Police Stations, locking sensitive data. After restoration, MP‑Sert issued a cybersecurity advisory.

The LockBit ransomware attack targeted the CCTV network of two Bhopal police stations – Ayodhya Nagar and Shahpur – causing a temporary lock on sensitive footage and related data.

Following the incident, the police IT team managed to restore the affected systems, allowing normal surveillance operations to resume. The incident was reported to the state’s cybercrime cell, and MP‑Sert released a cybersecurity advisory urging law‑enforcement agencies to review and strengthen their digital defenses.

MP‑Sert’s advisory highlighted best practices for ransomware prevention, including regular backups, software updates, and employee training on phishing threats. It also called for immediate reporting of any suspicious activity to the cybercrime division.

The incident underscores the growing threat of ransomware to critical public infrastructure, prompting authorities to take proactive measures to safeguard law‑enforcement data and operations.
