The Labour Department has introduced a new health insurance initiative offering free health cards and cashless treatment up to ₹5 lakh for building and construction workers.

The Labour Department has activated the 'Shramika Suraksha' scheme, a new initiative designed to enhance the welfare and safety of building and other construction workers. The program aims to provide comprehensive healthcare support to this vulnerable workforce through a dedicated health insurance plan.

Under the scheme, eligible workers will be issued free health cards, ensuring they have immediate access to medical services without upfront costs. This move is intended to reduce financial barriers to healthcare for those working in the construction sector.

The insurance coverage includes cashless treatment facilities, with benefits extending up to ₹5 lakh per case. This significant coverage is expected to provide substantial relief to workers and their families in the event of medical emergencies or prolonged hospitalization.

By implementing this health insurance plan, the department seeks to improve the overall well-being and safety standards for construction workers, addressing critical gaps in their social security and medical support systems.
