Labour contractor arrested, owner in custody after Satya Niketan collapse in UP

The multi‑storey Satya Niketan residential complex collapsed earlier this week, prompting an emergency response from local authorities in Uttar Pradesh. Rescue teams worked through the night to clear debris and search for survivors, while officials began a preliminary investigation into the cause of the failure.
Police officials said that the labour contractor responsible for the construction work has been taken into custody for questioning. The contractor is alleged to have ignored safety norms and employed unskilled workers, which may have contributed to the structural collapse.
In addition to the contractor, the building’s owner and her husband have been sent to judicial custody. Investigators are examining ownership records, building permits and compliance with statutory regulations before filing formal charges.
Authorities have announced that a detailed forensic report will be prepared and submitted to the district court, where the case will be examined further. The investigation remains ongoing, and no final conclusions have been drawn as of now.
