A Kerala grandmother’s video showing her teaching children cursive letters in sand has captured nationwide attention, drawing praise across social media.
A short video from Kerala featuring a 70‑year‑old grandmother gently guiding a group of children to form cursive letters in wet sand has gone viral on platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and YouTube. The grandmother, whose name has not been disclosed, can be seen demonstrating each stroke with patience, allowing the youngsters to trace the letters with their fingers.
The clip quickly amassed thousands of likes, shares and supportive comments, with netizens lauding the grandmother’s simple yet effective method of teaching handwriting. Many users highlighted the nostalgic value of cursive writing, which is increasingly absent from modern school curricula, and praised the initiative as a heart‑warming example of community‑driven learning.
Educators and cultural commentators have also weighed in, noting that the video underscores the importance of preserving traditional skills through innovative, low‑cost approaches. While the grandmother’s effort remains a grassroots activity, the widespread online response suggests a growing public appetite for such grassroots educational content.
The video continues to be shared across regional and national pages, inspiring similar activities in other parts of the country where elders are using everyday materials to teach basic skills to children.
