A dance video posted by a woman from Kedarnath went viral, prompting her to question the recent ban on Instagram Reels in India.
A woman from Kedarnath, a pilgrimage town in Uttarakhand, uploaded a dance routine on Instagram Reels that quickly amassed millions of views, making it one of the most viewed Indian Reels in recent months.
The video gained additional attention after the Indian government announced a temporary ban on Reels, citing privacy and data‑protection concerns. The ban, announced by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, was set to take effect from August 1, 2023.
The creator, who has not publicly disclosed her name, expressed disappointment that the ban could limit her creative expression and income from online content.
Her post has sparked a broader conversation among creators and netizens about the balance between regulatory measures and freedom of digital expression, with many arguing that the ban could hurt small creators who rely on Reels for visibility and monetization.
