The Karnataka State Election Commission has made public its draft voter rolls, revealing that more than a quarter of registered voters would be excluded from the upcoming elections.

The Karnataka State Election Commission (SEC) released its draft State Election Commission (SIR) voter rolls on Tuesday, allowing the public to review the list before finalization. The draft indicates that more than 27% of the current voter registry would be removed, a significant cut that could reshape the electorate for the next state elections.

The SEC has stated that the removal of voters is based on updated criteria such as duplicate entries, deceased individuals, and those who have moved out of the state. The draft list is now open for objections and corrections from citizens and political parties.

Election analysts warn that a reduction of this magnitude could affect voter turnout and the overall political landscape in Karnataka. Parties are expected to scrutinize the list closely to ensure that eligible voters are not inadvertently disenfranchised.

After the objection period closes, the SEC will publish the final rolls, which will be used to conduct the forthcoming elections. The commission has urged voters to verify their details and submit any corrections promptly.
