Karnataka’s Chief Electoral Officer has directed the Election Commission to take legal steps after reports of systematic attempts to delete voters from the rolls.

Karnataka’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has instructed the Election Commission to pursue legal action following allegations of widespread attempts to delete voters from the electoral rolls.

The directive comes after reports that certain groups were targeting specific demographics for removal, raising concerns about the integrity of the upcoming elections.

The CEO said the Election Commission would file a complaint with the High Court and seek an injunction to halt the deletion process.

Officials also announced a review of the voter registration system to identify and fix any loopholes that may have facilitated the deletions.

The move arrives as the state gears up for the next assembly elections, with political parties urging the government to protect the electoral process.
