The Karnataka government has announced a Rs 2,500‑crore plan to refurbish 500 state‑run schools, aiming to improve infrastructure and learning conditions.
The state of Karnataka unveiled a Rs 2,500‑crore scheme to revamp five hundred government schools across the region. The initiative will focus on renovating classrooms, upgrading laboratories, improving sanitation facilities and introducing digital learning tools. Funding will be drawn from the state’s education budget and central assistance where applicable.
Implementation is slated to begin in the upcoming financial year, with a phased rollout that targets schools in both urban and rural districts. Officials expect the upgrades to raise enrollment, reduce dropout rates and bring student performance in line with national standards.
The education minister highlighted that the project aligns with Karnataka’s broader goal of achieving a ‘world‑class’ public education system. Education experts have welcomed the move but cautioned that effective monitoring and timely completion will be critical to realising the intended benefits.
