England batsman Joe Root became the first cricketer to score 1,000 Test runs at Edgbaston, while also surpassing 2,000 runs in fourth innings. His unbeaten 62 helped England defeat Pakistan, giving him 69 Test fifties and putting him ahead of Sachin Tendulkar.
England won the third Test against Pakistan at Edgbaston on 22-25 June 2024, with Joe Root playing a pivotal role. Root became the first cricketer to score 1,000 Test runs at Edgbaston, a milestone that no other batsman has achieved in 147 years of Test cricket. In addition, he surpassed 2,000 runs in fourth innings, another unique feat. His unbeaten 62 in the final innings guided England to a 51-run victory. With this innings, Root has accumulated 69 Test fifties, moving him ahead of Sachin Tendulkar in the all‑time list of most Test fifties.
