Jammu and Kashmir legislators have voiced strong objections to the fact that only 18% of officers in the Union Territory cadre come from the Kashmir Valley, demanding a more equitable representation.

Jammu and Kashmir legislators have expressed strong discontent over the current allocation of Union Territory officers, which they say gives only 18% of the positions to personnel from the Kashmir Valley.

The MLAs argue that the representation is not proportional to the valley’s population and that it limits opportunities for local talent in key administrative roles.

They have called for a review of the allocation process and a more balanced distribution that better reflects the demographics of the Union Territory.

So far, the government has not issued a formal response to the legislators’ concerns.
