J&K Government Says One Health Facility Exists for Every 3,500 Residents

The Jammu and Kashmir government informed the state legislative assembly that the union territory currently maintains a health facility for every 3,500 inhabitants. This ratio reflects the recent expansion of primary health centres, sub‑district hospitals and other public health institutions under state‑run schemes. Officials highlighted that the figure marks an improvement over previous years, when the average number of people per facility was considerably higher, and aligns with national health‑service targets. The administration said further upgrades of existing centres and the establishment of new facilities in remote districts are planned to deepen coverage. While the numbers are welcomed, health experts cautioned that service quality, staffing and equipment must keep pace with the quantitative gains.
