Jharkhand signs MoU with Centre for Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0, CM seeks release of ₹6,500 crore

The government of Jharkhand and the Union government signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) today under the Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0, aiming to accelerate provision of piped drinking water to rural households.
The MoU outlines joint responsibilities, including financial assistance, technical support and monitoring mechanisms to meet the mission’s target of universal safe water access by 2027.
During the ceremony, Chief Minister Hemant Soren reiterated the state's pending claim of about ₹6,500 crore in central funds and urged the Centre to release the amount promptly to sustain ongoing water infrastructure projects.
Officials said the released funds will be channelled to construction of new pipelines, water treatment plants and community taps in districts that still lack reliable supply.
The agreement is expected to boost Jharkhand’s progress in the national water‑security agenda and improve health outcomes for millions of residents.
