The Jharkhand High Court ruled that a recent acquittal in a coal scam does not terminate ongoing Enforcement Directorate investigations, citing Rs 85 lakh cash and 134 deeds.

The Jharkhand High Court on Tuesday clarified that a recent acquittal in a coal scam involving state officials does not halt the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) ongoing investigations. The court cited the presence of Rs 85 lakh in cash and 134 related deeds as evidence that the case is still active. The ED, which has been probing the alleged diversion of coal revenues, will therefore continue its probe despite the acquittal. The ruling underscores that a court acquittal does not automatically terminate a federal agency’s investigative powers.
