Jharkhand’s electoral commission has announced that up to 4.37 million names may be removed from the draft voter rolls after identifying more than 700,000 deceased voters.
The Jharkhand State Election Commission (SEC) has revealed that the upcoming revision of the state’s voter rolls could see the removal of as many as 4.37 million entries.
The draft list, prepared for the 2024 elections, already contains over 700,000 names of deceased voters, a figure that the SEC says is higher than the national average.
Removing these names is intended to improve the accuracy of the rolls and reduce the risk of electoral fraud. The commission has also announced that it will conduct a comprehensive audit of the remaining entries.
The revised rolls are expected to be finalized by the end of the month, after which the SEC will publish the final version for public scrutiny.
