The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced that 20% of the new constable recruitment will be reserved for Special Police Officers (SPOs) and their followers. The move aims to strengthen local policing and create more employment opportunities.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has introduced a new recruitment policy that earmarks 20% of all constable vacancies for Special Police Officers and their followers. The decision was announced by the state’s Home Department during a press briefing held in Srinagar.

Under the revised scheme, candidates belonging to the SPO cadre will be given priority in the selection process, with the remaining 80% of positions open to the general pool. The policy is expected to boost the recruitment of trained personnel within the state’s policing structure.

Officials say the quota will help address manpower shortages in remote districts and improve response times during emergencies. The move also aligns with the government’s broader objective of enhancing local security and creating job opportunities for residents.

Recruitment drives for the new quota will begin next month, with application forms to be distributed through district police stations and online portals. Candidates will undergo the standard selection procedure, including written tests and physical fitness assessments.
