Jammu & Kashmir Assembly to Adopt Paperless Operations from Autumn Session

The Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly has decided to operate without paper from the upcoming autumn session. The move aims to digitise legislative procedures, reduce reliance on physical documents and cut administrative costs.

The assembly’s secretariat said the transition will involve installing secure digital platforms for drafting bills, recording debates and storing records electronically. Members will receive tablets or laptops to access documents in real time, and all official communications will be routed through encrypted online channels.

Officials expect the paperless system to speed up legislative work and improve transparency, as digital records can be accessed more quickly by officials and the public. The initiative aligns with broader government efforts to promote e‑governance and environmental sustainability across the Union Territory.
