Police in Jaipur recovered ₹7.6 million lost by an elderly doctor couple after a cyber fraud that threatened them with terrorism and money‑laundering charges, and have arrested the alleged mastermind Kirane Lakshman Tamhanne in Thane, Maharashtra.

An elderly doctor couple in Jaipur was lured into a cyber fraud that demanded a payment of ₹7.6 million, using threats of terrorism‑related activity and money‑laundering accusations to coerce them. The scheme, described by investigators as a "digital arrest" scare, left the couple financially drained and prompted a police complaint.

Following a detailed cyber‑crime investigation, Jaipur police traced the operation to a suspect named Kirane Lakshman Tamhanne. On the basis of electronic evidence and witness statements, the team coordinated with Maharashtra authorities and detained Tamhanne at his residence in Thane.

Senior police officials confirmed that the arrest was part of a broader crackdown on online fraud networks targeting senior citizens. Tamhanne is currently in custody and will face charges under the Information Technology Act and sections related to criminal intimidation and fraud.

The case remains under active investigation, with authorities warning the public about similar digital scams that exploit fear of legal action to extract money.
