Prisoners at Ajmer's high security jail created intricate sketches of Goddess Lakshmi and large paper candles to celebrate Diwali, bringing a hopeful glow within the cells.

Ajmer’s high‑security prison witnessed an unusual celebration on Diwali as inmates used limited materials to craft decorative pieces inside the facility. Several prisoners drew detailed sketches of Goddess Lakshmi on the walls, turning the stark concrete into a temporary shrine.

In addition to the sketches, other inmates fashioned oversized paper candles and colorful diyas, arranging them along the cell corridors. The handmade ornaments were displayed on the walls and floors, creating a festive ambience despite the restrictive environment.

Authorities allowed the activity as a morale‑boosting exercise, noting that the decorations reflected the prisoners’ desire for hope and renewal during the festival of lights. The event underscores how cultural traditions can find expression even within high‑security settings.

Local media reported that the decorations were well‑received by both staff and inmates, fostering a brief sense of normalcy and communal spirit during the holiday.
