The Central Museum in Indore will remain closed to visitors for the next 157 days as a Rs 11.5 crore renovation and beautification project gets underway.
Indore’s Central Museum will be inaccessible to the public from tomorrow for a period of 157 days while extensive refurbishment work is carried out. The closure has been announced by the museum’s administration to ensure safety and uninterrupted progress of the upgrade.
The renovation budget is set at approximately Rs 11.5 crore (about twelve crore rupees). Funds are being allocated for structural strengthening, modern display galleries, climate‑controlled storage, and aesthetic enhancements to improve the visitor experience.
Officials expect the upgraded facility to reopen in early 2027 with state‑of‑the‑art exhibition spaces and improved accessibility. The project aims to preserve the museum’s historic collections while meeting international museum standards.
The temporary shutdown is part of a broader effort by the Madhya Pradesh tourism department to boost cultural tourism in Indore and attract more domestic and foreign visitors once the work is completed.
