A seven‑member traffic committee in Indore has chosen four busy junctions for a test project that will ban left turns and introduce new congestion‑relief measures.

The municipal traffic committee, comprising seven officials, convened this week to address chronic congestion in Indore. After reviewing traffic patterns, the panel selected four high‑traffic intersections as pilot sites for a new management scheme. The core of the plan is to eliminate left‑turn movements at these points, allowing vehicles to proceed straight or turn right without interruption, thereby reducing wait times at signals.

In addition to the left‑turn restriction, the committee outlined supplementary measures such as synchronized signal timings, dedicated turning lanes for right‑hand turns, and real‑time monitoring through traffic cameras. These interventions are intended to smooth flow during peak hours and prevent bottlenecks that frequently spill over to adjacent roads.

The pilot will run for an initial period of three months, during which traffic data will be collected and analyzed. If the results show a measurable drop in average travel time and queue length, the city administration plans to extend the left‑turn‑free model to other congested junctions across Indore.

City officials emphasized that the experiment is part of a broader effort to modernize urban mobility, aligning with national smart‑city initiatives. Public feedback will be solicited through online platforms and local ward offices to ensure community concerns are addressed before any city‑wide rollout.
