Indore to Allocate ₹250 crore for Ahilya Bai Holkar Memorial and Museum

The Madhya Pradesh government has approved a ₹250 crore project to build a grand Ahilya Bai Holkar memorial and museum in Indore, alongside an Ahilya Lok cultural complex in Maheshwar.
The state government of Madhya Pradesh has sanctioned a two‑project initiative worth ₹250 crore to honor the legacy of Lokmata Ahilya Bai Holkar. In Indore, a sprawling memorial and museum dedicated to the 18th‑century ruler will be constructed, featuring galleries that showcase her administrative reforms, architectural patronage, and contributions to art and culture.
Simultaneously, the nearby town of Maheshwar will see the development of "Ahilya Lok," a cultural hub designed to promote traditional crafts, folk performances, and heritage tourism linked to the queen’s historic ties with the town. The project aims to create a permanent educational and tourist attraction that reflects Ahilya Bai’s vision of sustainable development.
Both sites are slated to begin construction later this year, with completion targeted within the next three to four years. The initiatives are expected to generate employment opportunities for local artisans and boost the regional economy through increased visitor footfall.
Funding for the projects will be drawn from the state’s cultural preservation budget, and the designs are being overseen by a committee of historians, architects, and tourism experts to ensure historical accuracy and modern visitor amenities.
